Nine (9) of the CSU iSchools recipients were chosen to participate in the final round of 2D Artwork Competition during the 3rd Caraga ICT Congress hosted by CSU and other collaborators on February 24, 2010 at Almont Inland Hotels and Convention Center.The student participants were given 3 hours to finish their piece with a theme: “Green Computing” which was explained to them as the environmentally responsible use of computers and other related resources.
A textfile and GIMP applications were the only allowed programs to be running in their workstation, they were not allowed to use ready made photos from other sources and they have to do it from scratch.
GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a built-in program of Ubuntu OS where user can do photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.
The CSU iSchools team initiated this competition to assess the PHS level of exploration to the different features and applications of the FOSS. Gimp was chosen for it was not been tackled, nor taught on them to any of the trainings conducted by the iSchools.
Angelo O. Sembrano of Agusan National High School got the 1st place, followed by Robert Roy Immanuel S. Bay-og of Bislig National High School and Bhen Mark D. Campana Bilay National High School.
